A source close to notorious gay Elton John has revealed that the singer plans to release a 3rd version of Candle in the Wind in memory of deceased actor Heath Ledger. John has reportedly said that he has let a sizeable amount of time pass since Ledger’s death and the announcement because “Ledger is a particularly difficult word to rhyme” but has now completed the new lyrics and will be recording soon.
This newest version of the song will reportedly contain the verse “Goodbye tall and lean / though you were not gay at all / you had the grace to play a man / who scored Jake Gyllanhaal”. Elton reportedly found it deeply difficult to put into words his great respect for Ledger, who played a homosexual character in the hit film Brokeback Mountain, but apparently did remark, in a press release that was either poorly edited or in poor taste: “He’ll go down in the anals of history as a man who wasn’t afraid to be gay”.
John recently hit the headlines when he drunkenly quoted lyrics from his hit ‘Bennie and the Jets’ at a birthday party for fellow celebrity Oprah Winfrey, who thought the line ‘we’ll kill the fatted calf tonight’ was a personal slur. “I am not feeling the love tonight!” Winfrey commented at the time.
It is widely suspected that John, who sleeps with men, (the hint’s in the name), is releasing the song in the hopes that sales will boost his flagging fortunes. The singer is known to be more financially hopeless than Northern Rock – regularly spending frivolously on clothing, cars and eyewear in particular. However, John strongly denies any dubious motives, saying: “Heath was a patriot, he was a knight, a cowboy maybe, but also a wonderful joker. I’m pure in motive in this gesture and I’m actually being very brave coming out with this because every man in Hollywood who made a movie this year hates him. No matter how good they were, Ledger’s getting the Oscar because of that dying stunt.”
Candle in the Wind – The Heath Ledger Lethal Cocktail Mix, will hit all good record stores on September 31st.
